Healthy forgiveness can be described as a process that follows these steps. The term “step” is intentionally chosen to indicate the need to see the process as incremental and progressive. Although each step will vary based on the individual and the injury, each is important and must be experienced in succession. There are varying severities of injury that require forgiveness. Although the process is the same, the depth of the injury will determine the pace and intensity of the forgiving process. This material is adapted from Forgiving the Unforgivable by Beverly Flanigan (1992).
